Police Seek Men In Rt 22 Murder
Frederick C Shannon 25 of 1452 Parkview Ter was shot and killed Sunday night while working alone at Rahner s Mobile Gasoline Station 169 Route 22. Shannon was found with a handcuff on his left arm after a single gunshot to the head last seen by Samuel Fazzone. He was pronounced dead on arrival at St Elizabeth Hospital. Police hunt two suspects Gary York 21 and Lawrence Wicks 22 arrested in Tampa and to be arraigned for related robberies. Shannon a planned groom to Miss Joyce Mills was scheduled to marry Aug 7 at The First Baptist Church Hillside. He served in the US Naval Reserve and planned to become a minister before working at the station. He is survived by his father, two sisters, and his mother died June 7. Two Brothers Arrested After Hillside Robbery Chase
The Hayward brothers Andrew 28 and Alfonso 23 of Elizabeth were arrested at 8:30 p.m. after a chase following a robbery of 72-year-old Mrs Thelma Hathaway at 106 N Broad St. They allegedly assaulted her, dragged her, and stole $8 before abandoning a stolen car. Citizens and off duty officers helped capture Alfonso at Conant and Westminster while Andrew was nabbed at 124 Coe Ave.

Thieves Strike School Storage Area Stolen Goods Reported
Miss Carol McLaughlin of the recreation department said the municipal recreation storage area at Calvin Coolidge School was entered over the weekend and an undetermined amount of playground equipment was stolen. Items include two basketballs a volleyball and a catcher's mitt. Mary B Ladomirak reported a stroller stolen from Harden-Locker School Playground valued at 30 dollars. A 12 year old boy was found with the stroller and police recovered it. TOP SPOT Rotary President Dr Avella announced Hillside Club with 2000 dollars is number 751 in Rotary Foundation activities.

Township Fails To Pass Paving And Alarm Ordinances
A stormy township committee meeting failed to adopt two ordinances. One authorized buying typewriters and machines at 2200 dollars. The other amended building construction rules calls for a site plan reviewed by the Planning Board before Board of Adjustment or committee action. Residents opposed street resurfacing bills with assessments of home frontage, while police and fire officials urged safety measures and responses to recent crimes. The committee postponed final votes on both measures until August 3 to review new information and hear more testimony.

Conductor Sets Two Concerts at Hillside High
Two free concerts are scheduled next week in Hillside. On Thursday July 29 the Hillside Summer Music Program will stage its annual concert in the high school auditorium at 7 45 p m featuring the concert band stage band piano solos twirlers and instrumental features. Admission is free. A second Hillside Summer Band event is set for Tuesday July 27 at 7 30 p m in Conant Park with patriotic tunes nostalgic melodies standard overtures and marches. The shows are offered with Hillside Recreation Commission and Union County Party committee support. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.
