Mancuso Leads For Union County Election Board Job

Former township committeeman Charles S. Mancuso, a Democrat, appears to have the inside track for appointment to the Union County Board of Elections. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Magistrate Henry Goldhor and must be filled by Governor Richard J. Hughes by March 1.

Purim Assembly Date Is Changed

Herman C. Lansey principal of Sinai Hebrew School announced that the Purim assembly, originally set for last Sunday, will now be held Sunday March at 10 30 A M in the Holtz Auditorium at the Sinai Hebrew School and Youth Center. The program features Command Performance produced and directed by Mrs Chana Given head of the music department.

Dischler Speaks To Girl Scouts In Newark

Dischler spoke to Girl Scout Troop 188 at Elizabeth Ave Presbyterian Church and Newark Municipal Building, explaining how democracy functions the citizen role and how elections are conducted, followed by a building tour. Hillside Heart Pundh Drive announced extensions to March 15 to allow more time for collecting reports. Contested GOP Clerk Nomination In Hillside

George T. Hall announces candidacy for Township Clerk as Jack C. Noble also runs. Hall, 48, a Hillside resident and broker, has military service in World War II, and active roles in local clubs. Hall is married with son Garry, a Hillside High senior, while the Republican Policy Committee remains neutral.

Ballroom Dancing Tops In Adult School Recreation

The first Adult School Education Recreation program began last Thursday at the High School with 317 registered. Sponsored by the Recreation Commission and the Board of Education, the ten week term has full capacity for all courses and will not accept further registrations. Activities include typing 3, steno 21, slimnastics 34, sewing 21, modern math 15, ballroom dancing 66, contract bridge 49, and community playhouse 17.

Skyscraper Steel Awarded Major New York Office Tower Contract

Schacht Steel Construction Inc. of Hillside and New York City secured the contract to furnish fabricate and erect the steel for New York City's newest 40 story office skyscraper near Rockefeller Center. The building at 1330 Avenue of the Americas opposite the New York Hilton will span 411000 square feet of offices and 60000 square feet of garage space, rising from 14th Street. Construction begins in May with completion planned for 1965, featuring an all welded steel frame, aluminum and glass facade, broad plazas, a peripheral air heating system, a roof deck and multiple basements.

Groh Seeks Republican Nod For Hillside Township Committee

Henry G. Groh a Hillside banking executive announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to the Hillside Township Committee. The Hillside Republican Policy Committee unanimously endorsed Groh citing his long township service and qualifications. Primary election is expected April 21 with no opposition anticipated.

Sidney Englander, president of the Dads Booster Club of Hillside, announced the cancellation of the Bennington College dance program set for Tuesday evening March 3 due to a scheduling conflict. Joseph Silver of Hillside High School, chairman of the affair, will refund all ticket buyers.

At the Westfields Armory Major Thomas Tully presided over the mid year review for the Junior Essex Troop. Hillside youths were promoted and recruits reassigned. Michael Rycek became a Private and John Kleuber with Kennett Kleuber moved to First Platoon as Recruits.

The first of three Sabin oral polio Sundays will administer vaccine to county residents who desire it.
