Towns Line Up In Zone Battle
Public hearing before the Board of Adjustment last Thursday night on a variance request by Menza's Coal Co of Newark to build two family homes on a three acre Irvington area fronting North Union Avenues etc. The meeting drew over 100 residents with 49 from Irvington and 45 from Hillside opposing. Architect Harold Kerr testified homes would be frame with brick veneer, 24 by 55 feet, two car garages. Montclair Planning Director Robert Edwards supported the project saying it would aid residential expansion. Hillside Home Owners Association questioned the board's power to grant a variance, warning changes require township ordinance. The hearing adjourned to April 3.

June Outdoor Art Show Planned by Hillside Woman's Club
At a June 1 show, Hillside High School grounds host the Outdoor Art Show from 1 PM to 4 PM with a rain date on June 8. All area schools participate and residents may enter up to three framed or unframed pictures by May 24, each entrant responsible for their own work. A May 24 committee meeting at the High School answers exhibitors questions with board members from the Woman's Club and local schools.
