Red Cross Plans Cancer Drive For Two Courses

The American Red Cross will start spring classes in mother and baby care on Monday April 1 in Elizabeth. Seven lessons run Mondays and Wednesdays 1 to 3 p.m. at the Red Cross Chapter House with a hospital tour. A home care of the sick course may organize soon. Register by phone. a home nursing committee meeting is set for April 8. Cancer drives in Hillside begin April 1 with canvassing of residential districts. Cancer Month is proclaimed.

Service Clubs Set PAL Drive

A special committee of service club representatives met at the Hillside PAL Building on Thursday to review appeal letters for funds aimed at residents and industries. The committee is headed by Louis J. Hess, former club president.

Comet Squad Honored by Board at Townley Dinner

High school Comet Squad and coaching staff were guests of Hillside Board of Education at Townley's Restaurant Union. President Harvey Stone praised their two championships in the Watchung Conference and Central Jersey Group LV and noted their OT loss to Newark Central in Atlantic City finals. The Sinai Congregation Men’s Cup meets March 21 at 8 30 PM with a film of the New Year’s Day championship game shown.

Ambulance Squad To Receive JWV Award

Robert Kaufman of Col. Norman Meranus Post 78 JWV announced Hillside Ambulance Squad will receive the Post’s Annual Americanism Award for devoted community service over 11 years. Funeral Held For Ex Fire Captain Frank B Sanford

Funeral services were held at Growney Funeral Home for Frank B. Sanford age 77 of 1128 Woodruff Ave. He died Saturday at Alexian Brothers Hospital Elizabeth. A native of Hillside he joined the Fire Department in 1925 and became captain in 1927 retiring in 1950. Survivors include two brothers James L Sanford and Charles T Sanford of Flemington. Another brother Norman Ly Sanford was Hillside’s first police chief and died two years ago.
