Feltman Rebukes Corwick Over Budget Payment
Franklin A. Feltman, finance chairman for the Board of Education, criticized Finance Commissioner Marvin Corwick and former member Late Share for opposing a $58,665 debt service payment. The payment, approved at last week’s township committee meeting, raises the 1969-70 tax rate by eight points to $7.42 per $100. Feltman said half of the budget covers July 1 to December 31 and that the debt service includes funds for past building projects. He insisted using money not designated for debt service is illegal.

Corwick Accuses Feltman Of Eight Point Tax Increase
Finance Commissioner Corwick accuses Board of Education member Franklin Feltman of forcing an eight point tax rate increase in Hillside. He argues Feltman pressed township funds to the board in the first half of the year, harming residents, while noting the Board could legally adjust funding but not to the people's detriment. The dispute centers on funding halves and partisan politics.
