Classic Plot Theory Revisited by James N Young
In a late night book ramble the author reflects on James N Young's 1944 work 101 Plots Used and Abused. He outlines seven basic plots, notes that most stories recycle old material, and cites examples from hackneyed crime and romance tropes. The Western canon is said to be beyond redemption and love stories are deemed poorly plotted. The piece ends with a hope for fresh endings.
