Tobacco Could Be An Aid To World Health
Washington AP reports researchers at the Agricultural Research Service Beltsville MD say 12 to 17 percent of a tobacco plant is high quality protein that can be extracted to feed humans and animals via homogenized leaf curing. Dr T C Tso notes the process also allows removal of pollutants. Projections suggest up to 1.2 billion pounds yearly protein by 2000, meeting up to 63 million daily protein needs, though growing tobacco for protein alone is not economical.
