Brooklyn Eagle reports James E. Norris of Chicago negotiating to purchase the Brooklyn Dodgers of the National League with a high likelihood that control will pass during the winter season.
Paul MacMillan of Charleston South Carolina was elected governor of the Carolinas district of Kiwanis International at the district convention in Asheville. Charleston was chosen to host the 1985 convention, succeeding Ralph C. Barker of Durham as district governor.
The American Federation of Labor convention in San Francisco adopts a unanimous resolution criticizing the appointment of 8. Clay Williams to an NRA post and urging President Roosevelt to conduct an impartial inquiry into Williams hostile attitude toward labor.
Tony Manero of High Point North Carolina clipped two strokes off par to take the lead in the $35,000 Louisville Open at Louisville Country Club. With one third of the 200 entrants finished, Manero posted 83 87 70 for the day.
Two men died and 15 were severely injured in a major explosion at the Central Cold Storage warehouse on Chicago's near North Side. John Gunia died at Henrotin hospital and John Kilgoria, 50, died at Passaic hospital after evacuation with others. Firefighters, wearing gas masks, searched debris as ammonia fumes rose and debris continued to fall from upper floors.
Washington October 12 Clay Williams NRA chairman said the new governing board would not make sweeping broad changes in price fixing policies. He emphasized a measured approach and avoided major policy shifts at that time.

Mexico Missouri Oct 12 officers rushed five miles south on highway 54 to chase three men who may include Charles Pretty Boy Floyd. By 10 AM twenty five officers joined the search as highways were blocked. A Kansas City salesman and former detective Blanchard identified Floyd as one of the trio while a wounded man rode in the back seat.
Three men believed to include Pretty Boy Floyd vanished after authorities blocked roads at the Kingdom City intersection of highways 40 and 54. Missouri officers, state patrol, county and city police searched the area as Floyd allegedly linked to the June 1933 Kansas City officer slayings remained at large heading south toward Missouri and Oklahoma.
A Chicago bound Rock Island train No 14 derailed six miles east of Iowa City injuring six severely and killing two. Des Moines resident Mrs Esther Roberts and Chicago steward Sam Mason died. Madeline Roberts 13 was among the injured. The second train No 23 collided with the derailed cars.
President Will Green predicted that about one million more workers will join unions within a year as the American Federation of Labor pushes its industrial union policy for mass production industries. The convention also debated anti labor motions and considered expanding the federation's executive council while voting on leadership.

Edward West Daddy Browning wealthy real estate operator died today in Scarsdale after a hemorrhage last June and hospitalization in New York City. He was 63. Browning once married Frances Peaches Heenan and was known for his flamboyant publicity and midtown real estate empire. He built a lavish 85th Street apartment, divorced in 1924, and later lived in his office with a collection of opulent furnishings.
Senator Lewis of Illinois chairing the Democratic senatorial campaign committee said no changes in the dollar value or other inflationary moves were being run by the administration. He noted that Senator Bulkley had been misunderstood if he suggested Roosevelt favors devaluation, while Bulkley had said further devaluation was not impossible.

CHAPEL HILL October 12 The University of North Carolina America's oldest state university marked its 141st birthday with ceremonies in Memorial hall led by President Prask Graham. Alumni greetings arrived from 18 000 members as Dean Hobbs read the roll of deceased university men and Rev Donald Stewart offered invocation.
In Louisville a ransom note to Mrs. Alice Speed Stoll named $50,000 but the family says the sum paid remains unclear. Berry V. Stoll reports all ransom requirements met as investigators pursue leads with multiple parties involved. The Stoll estate is under siege with phones tied and guards watching, as authorities mobilize state and national guardsmen if needed.
Walter Childres, 29, was taken into custody in Charleston West Virginia for questioning in the Louisville Kentucky kidnapping of Mrs. Alice Stoll. Officers found hair and cloth in a wrecked car linked to a wrecking company. No charges yet as police pursue a formal statement.
Detroit star pitcher Lynwood Thomas Rowe and his bride Edna Skinner of El Dorado Ark were married last night in a hotel suite. The couple plans to settle in El Dorado and start their married life after honeymoon travels in the south.伴
In Winston-Salem on October 12, Mrs. Blanche Carr Sterne of Greensboro was elected president of the Northwestern District Welfare conference at the closing session. Mrs. Irene Price of High Point was named secretary and Greensboro will host the 1938 meeting.
