In Paterson New Jersey 20 000 silk and rayon dyers face a possible strike. Eli Keller general manager of the Silk Workers Association promised his 15 000 members would give full cooperation to the dye workers demanding an 80 hour week higher wages and a closed shop.

Winston Salem AP reports Charles Isacc Phillips, 57, shot himself in the front yard using a stick to pull the trigger. Phillips, a prosperous farmer, had been in ill health for some time and is survived by his widow and ten children.
In San Francisco on October 18 the AP reports a state court granted a new trial for Allene, who had been convicted and sentenced to hang. The ruling opens the path for reconsideration of the capital punishment case.

In Asheboro on October 13 Mias Nora Hudson aged 19 daughter of C W Hudson ended her life by diving into Deep River near Worthville Randolph county yesterday afternoon. The body was recovered today and the Randolph county coroner ruled death by her own action with no motive found.
Paris dispatch reports October 18 that Spain suspended foreign telephone service to prevent the transmission of false news aimed at injuring Spain. The Spanish embassy in Paris cited deliberate misinformation as the reason for the action.
