Duke to test time of day pricing with limited customers
Utilities on a trial of time of day pricing from 7 p m to 7 p m and a winter peak 7 a m to noon if the commission approves. Duke would offer the rates to a limited number of customers willing to use the plan for at least a year while monitoring results. Officials say peak reductions are not tied to the rates alone and that current programs already show progress. Duke aims to cut 1,000,000 kilowatts from peak by 1988, having reduced 150,000 kilowatts in 1976, and will test 100 advanced meters in Charlotte and Greer for time of day metering.
