Christmas Mail Rush Planned by Local Post Office

Postmaster O R York urged early shopping and mailing to ease Christmas mail in the local office. Additional funds were requested and Washington approved two appropriations for extra carriers and clerks while workers may take half holidays on Christmas Eve. Patrons were asked to mail ecards promptly and avoid waiting until Christmas Day.

James Glenn Taken On a Theft Charge

James Glenn, a man described as a Negro from Norfolk Virginia, was arrested by local officers for theft of a Ford roadster reported from Spartanburg South Carolina. He allegedly tried to sell $65 overcoats for five to ten dollars, and was trapped by officers on Spring Street before being returned to Spartanburg.

The many friends of Mrs. F. A. Moser regret to learn she underwent an operation at Guilford General Hospital Friday morning and is slowly improving. Allen Crowson attended the football game in Salisbury yesterday.

Airplane to Bring Col Clark Back for Elks Minstrel

Happy Harry Foote plans a fast air trip to Mt Airy to fetch Colonel Clark, a former black faced comedian, for the Elks minstrel show opening. Clark cannot attend due to a sale by Grimes and Clark, so a return flight from Willard Field is arranged for November 29 at 10 39 AM. Clark is involved with Grimes and Clark and the local Elks lodge.

Jack Edwards Named Commander of American Legion Post 87

Jack Edwards, local insurance man, elected commander of Andrew Jackson post No. 87, American Legion, succeeding J. W. Welch. Edwards served as yeoman first class on the transport Susquehanna, with 13 Atlantic crossings carrying about 45,000 troops. New officers include Albert Freeze, Ben Moore, Fred McPherson, W. W. Raper, L. R. Johnston, Donald C. McRae, Ralph Davis, and David Wright. Installation set after the new year.
