High Point prepares for a 12 hour special election Tuesday to decide if city limits should be extended. Polls open with sunrise and close at 5 15 pm as advocates urge early turnout and orderly voting.
The notice lists polling sites for multiple precincts including Precinct No. 1 at W. D. Jones’ office, Precinct No. 2 at City collector’s office, Precinct No. 38 at North Side Fire Station, Precinct No. 4 at Khohm Woodling’s Willowbrook and High streets residence, Precinct No. 5 at W. D. Poor’s store, Precinct No. 6 at Southside Fire Station, and Precinct No. 17 at Brown and Southern’s store on South Martin.
Citizens rally to support extension with 200 cars needed to transport voters to polls. Officials expect about 1,800 affirmative votes among 3,572 registered voters as NC eyes High Point election tomorrow.

The High Point Township Sunday School Institute began at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church with nine ministers, 15 superintendents, and 105 teachers present. Dr. Joseph Broughton Patsy Magee and D. W. Emms spoke as sessions continued into the evening. Representatives from nearly all township Sunday schools attended the roll call, with J. W. Clinard presiding. Four more sessions are planned before adjournment tomorrow night.
The High Point Athletic eleven faced a cancellation of the game with Catawba college next Saturday as Catawba managers pulled out. Local managers seek a replacement game for the open date and also aim to schedule a Thanksgiving Day matchup with an independent Winston-Salem team in the Twin City. If open dates remain, Trinity second team from last Saturday may be used, but organizers hope to arrange another contest with a different opponent.
In talks between senate and house leaders and White House officials it was arranged for President Harding to appear before the joint session in the hall of the house at 12 39 p m tomorrow to deliver his message in person.
Data gathering by the Corporation Commission and Governor Morrison aims to shape a message to the General Assembly on a planned steamship line. The plan draws business support but is seen as politically explosive, with potential clashes over railroad vs utility regulation and tariff power.
Grand Exalted Ruler J Edgar Masters and Grand Secretary Frew C Robbinson arrive with other Elk officers for a reception at the Elks home. They travel via Greensboro en route to Atlanta for the 1923 convention, with High Point and Greensboro the only two cities visited.

The opening of the Brice session of Congress and the Senate proceeded with usual formalities. Mrs Felton of Georgia waited patiently to take the oath of office as the president’s outgoing term and the new administration began.
Congress opened a two week special session called by President Harding to consider the administration ship subsidy bill. The ceremony honored the late Senator Thomas Watson of Georgia and Congressman Nolan of California. Mrs Felton, first woman senator, faced delays before taking oath as crowds cheered in the galleries and she greeted senators and suffrage groups.
After weeks of illness Mrs C L Leonard of High Point died Sunday at her South Main Street home. Born Martha Gordy in Randolph County in 1862, she left four children T H Leonard L D Leonard Pearl and Blanche surviving along with one brother MeD Gordy. She moved from the Methodist Protestant to the First Methodist Protestant church recently and funeral services were held at 10 this morning conducted by Rev George R Brown.
Acting on reports of illegal registrations in the fifth precinct for the upcoming city extension election, P. L. Culler and others challenged at least 22 names before Registrar Frank Smith. Officials say 16 challenged registrations were struck after hearings, with more removals possible as the trial continued.
Frank Bacon renowned for the role of Lightnin Bill Jones dies from heart disease in Chicago hospital at age unknown following a long stage career. He appeared in the popular play over two thousand times, collaborating on its writing, with final performance just before his illness was confirmed.
Wilson authorities report policeman J A Sykes aged 40 was shot and killed early today by a negro suspect who fled. A posse hunts the gunman after Sykes responded to a disturbance in the negro section and grappled with the assailant. Eyewitness Willie Elston says the officer was shot five times and died within fifteen minutes.

At a Raleigh session the State Bar association executive committee planned to memorialize the legislature to create ten judicial districts due to growing litigation. In a separate incident Bob Gray Jr and Needham Cavewell fought a ten minute fist and skull clash at the Bland hotel over a reporter’s accident story, ending in a draw with Gray lighter by about 25 pounds. traffic was halted briefly and no arrests were made.
Louis Thomas Stilley died Saturday night at his Back Creek township home after a 10 month illness. He was 28, a former High Pointer who lived on Park Street before moving to Randolph County. Survived by widow Viola and three children, six brothers, one sister, and his parents. Funeral at Holiness Church this afternoon at 3 with Rev O Li Ruth officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery expected.
The Elks band plans its weekly rehearsal tonight at 8 at the Elks club. It has new music to learn and will present a sorrow observance program on the first Sunday in December.
Committees from the High Point and Winston Salem chambers of commerce were named to plan the December 5 celebration opening the new hard surface road between the two cities. A basket picnic at noon will be the centerpiece, with speakers and officials attending.
The near east peace conference convened in Lausanne as diplomats discuss Turkey Greece and the freedom of the straits. The United States designated observers to monitor and participate where it serves American interests with ambassador to Italy, minister to Switzerland, and Rear Admiral Bristol attending.
Judge Harding orders an auction sale with a minimum bid of 200000 and a claims filing deadline. Receiver L J Hole, Jr. in charge since last April will receive claims. Hearing before the Interstate Commerce Commission may be held in North Carolina. Local chamber plans to meet to review the development.
Announcement states Stunt Night by the City Baptist Young People's union will shift to November 27 from November 2. The event will take place at the high school auditorium with elaborate preparations underway.
