Seattle Juvenile Offenders Face Neighborhood Accountability Boards
Ray Olsen, 17, chose a neighborhood accountability board over juvenile court after wrecking an unlocked car. He must complete 85 hours of paid community service and 15 hours unpaid to repay the victim. The boards, run by volunteers and funded by federal money, aim to reduce street crime and offer deterrence through local restitution and community involvement. Earl Patterson, 17, also praised the program saying it offers understanding and neighbor jurors with confidentiality maintained.
