Changes in Agriculture Sweep North Carolina Farms
North Carolina farmers face long term shifts revealed by USDA trends. Farm numbers decline from 1910 to 1960 and beyond as tenants and laborers drop while owners rise slightly. Tractor use surges, acreage shifts from workstock to human food, and land prices soar with farm consolidation continuing. Electricity access expands, diets change, and farming remains a managed, adapting business.
