Reading program urged for summer school
Ray Hubbard reports the Enterprise Melt writer notes a committee will study poor readers and propose remedial action for the 1970 summer program. Dr. William P. Matthews, newly sworn school board member, named chair of a committee of parents teachers and a school administration member. Bridgers urged a federally funded ESEA related program, but local interest was low. Superintendent Dr. Dean B. Pruette warned against selling a paid program and emphasized avoiding a mercenary image. Evelyn Thompson stresses persistent reading difficulties from elementary to high school. Six nonreaders began reading in junior high this year. Bridgers notes many still need help.
