Memorial Service for Harrison Alexander in High Point
The funeral for Harrison Alexander was held at his 210 English Street residence on Saturday at 5 pm. Born October 23, 1840, in Guilford County, he served in the Confederate Army, helped establish High Point’s oldest mercantile business, and left a family and community legacy marked by honesty, instruction, and humor. The service included a quartet, a tribute by Dr. Gilbert T. Rowe, and a reading of Scripture, with interment at the cemetery where Daughters of the Confederacy laid designs and pallbearers named Geo A. Matton, W. Jones, Dr. H. C. Pitts, J. Kirkman, D. A. Stanton, W. Pickett, K. D. Steele, and J. A. Clinard.
