Misidentified governor portrait prompts restoration request
In Chapel Hill a mislabel in the North Carolina Governors portrait booklet misidentified Samuel Price Carson as James Turner. Archives and History seeks confirmation of any authentic likeness for Turner and six earlier governors, urging readers to contact Mrs. Memory F. Mitchell. James Turner, born 1766 in Virginia, served in the state legislature and became governor in 1802.
