Army air forces draft cuts 2000 planes monthly
The army air forces drafted a one front production plan that could trim monthly output by up to 2000 aircraft by year end. About 7000 planes are built monthly now as the schedule, submitted to WPB, shifts focus to Pacific needs and reduces European war output.

Bituminous Wage Pact Cleared By Government Action
Washington May 1 John L Lewis cleared the last government hurdle on his soft coal contract while anthracite talks stalled at the war labor board. Economic Stabilizer William H Davis approved the bituminous wage pact and allowed a 16 cent per ton price rise to cover operator costs. The hard coal contract had expired, with anthracite pits ready to halt, despite a WLB order to keep producing. The board said wage deals would be retroactive to today. Labor Secretary Perkins pressed miners and operators in New York and Lewis said his scale committee urged resumption of work if Perkins terms were accepted.
