Lone German Stowaway Ringleader Of Delaware Ship Raid
A lone stowaway Ernest Schiller hijacked the British steamer Matoppo off Lewes Delaware on March 31. He held Captain Bergner and 56 crew at gunpoint, rifled the safe, seized valuables, and forced the ship toward the Delaware capes before being captured and jailed. Authorities say the motive appeared to be money, not military action.
