Fight With Villa's Men Expected As Cavalry Close In

Reports from El Paso indicate American forces pursue Villa after claims of battles with Carranza troops. Villa reportedly weapons up forces, with some reports saying he seeks battle and others that he is fleeing toward Santa Maria river or old San Andreas HQ. San Antonio dispatches say General Funston awaits confirmation of fighting between American and Villa forces along the Northwestern railway from Madera to Chihuahua. Washington March 31 Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Stone and House Foreign Affairs Chief Flood reviewed the submarine issue with Secretary Lansing. Officials say the German threat is not imminent and no word has come from Ambassador Gerard on inquiries to Berlin about the Sussex and English channel torpedoings. High Point T P A Meets Tonight in Annual Session

The annual meeting of the Post D North Carolina division of the Travelers Protective Association will be held at the Elks home in High Point at 7 30 pm with 125 to 150 members expected. Officers to be elected, delegates to Henderson state convention discussed, reports of committees and a smoker after the business session. Post D will have seven or eight delegates with Henderson May 5 and 6. the division aims to grow to about 500 more members and assets up by 70 000 this year.

The big trans Pacific steamer Chiyvo Maru grounded in fog near Lemra islands south of Hong Kong. Nine tugboats and a British destroyer assisted, evacuating 299 passengers from San Francisco and Manila. The 13,431 ton vessel, 558 feet long, left San Francisco March 2 for Yokohama and Manila March 18.

Kane the Embalmer Denies Waite Story and Money

Eugene Oliver Kane who embalmed John H. Peck's body denied plans to testify that arsenic was in the embalming fluid. Sworn statements indicate Waite paid Kane nine thousand dollars in cash and a nine thousand four hundred dollar check to swear arsenic was used. Kane says the money was forced on him and he remained free while under arrest order.

Waite Indicted for First Degree Murder by Jury

New York reports grand jury indictment charging Arthur Warren Waite with murdering his father-in-law John K. Peck a Grand Rapids drug manufacturer. The two counts allege Waite administered arsenic to kill Peck on March 12 and that the poison used was deadly and unknown. The defendant faces arraignment pending his condition.

Triangle High School Debaters Vie in State Navy Debate

North Carolina high schools field two teams each in a triangle debate hosted by University of North Carolina.
