Aviator Drops South of Casas Grandes During Pershing Pursuit

Report from General Funston’s headquarters says one aviator from the squadron joining General Pershing’s columns descended south of Casas Grandes. The name is not disclosed. Earlier reports indicated both fliers went down along the border line to the Mexican frontier.

Doctors say he is holding his own amid multiple injuries including fractures and scalp wounds. Fire Rages Through Spray Cotton Mill Town

Reported fire cuts Spray off from Greensboro area as wires down. Reidsville operator relayed that a building in Spray was burning and occupants must evacuate. Extent of the blaze unknown for hours. Spray lies in Rockingham County near the Virginia line, about 40 miles north of Greensboro.

London reports an unofficial wireless message from Rome stating Czernowitz the Bukowina capital has been abandoned by Austrian forces. The note suggests a rapid retreat amid wartime confusion and rumors in March.

Funeral today for Mrs Hazel Hiatt after wreck death

The funeral for Mrs. Hazel Hiatt wife of Mack S. Hiatt was held at Wesley Memorial church at 11 this morning with Rev. Dr. Cilber T. Rowe and Rev. J. E. Thompson leading brief tributes. She died after the Jamestown tram wreck Sunday night and was born July 30 1882 near High Point.

Springfield School Commencement Set for March 26 28

The Springfield school closes with a three day program March 26 to 28 at the school auditorium. Rev. Walter Grabb will preach the commencement sermon. Greensboro male quartet provides special music. An entertainment by primary and intermediate grades is scheduled for Monday evening. Tuesday features the declaimer contest and a talk by Dr. John A. Lesh of State Normal College Greensboro.

Destructive Fire Ravages Paris Texas

A six hour blaze in Paris Texas destroyed about 30 city blocks. Loss estimated between 3 and 5 million dollars with no reported deaths. Prominent buildings including hotels banks churches newspapers post office city hall jail and many stores were obliterated. The fire waned after wind eased and fuel ran out.

Citywide revival planned by High Point ministers

The High Point Ministerial Association plans a citywide evangelistic campaign starting Sunday June 4 for two weeks under a big tent in central High Point. Rev William Black a Presbyterian evangelist from Charlotte will preach with a large city choir.
