Herndon Funeral Set at First Presbyterian

Hotel Imperial in Knoxville Destroyed by Fire

Knoxville March 21 Firemen at dawn drenched the ruins of the Hotel Imperial after a blaze at an early hour. About 22 guests were in the hotel with no known deaths. two firemen were injured by collapsing walls. Night clerk said lightning struck the elevator shaft top. Guests and women were guided to safety. valuables nearby escaped damage.

Plane crashes injure pilot in New Mexico field

In Columbus New Mexico on March 21 an aeroplane from a six craft formation fell fifty feet and sustained partial wreckage. Pilot Lieutenant Bowne was injured but not fatally.

Durham Officers Seek Suspect After Assault on Teen

Durham authorities patrol five miles east of the city hunting an unknown Black man accused of assaulting 16 year old Daisy Webster, daughter of tobacco planter Mr and Mrs John D Webster, as she was returning from school. Police believe they have a lead on the suspect.

Running Fight Off Belgian Coast Between Destroyers

Yesterday four British destroyers sighted three German destroyers off the Belgian coast. The Germans turned for Zeebrugge and were chased. Several shots were exchanged with two enemy ships hit. Four British sailors were wounded.
