Jaycees Jim Morgan and Marvin Lewis helped collect trash along Westchester Drive as the Youth Council wrapped Ecology Week with a Saturday cleanup in High Point.
High Point prepares a Perry Memorial in the new High Point Museum honoring Seborn Perry the founder of the first industry and the first house in the city. Portraits of Perry and his wife will decorate the director's room funded by Jamestown resident Mrs. William G. Ragsdale Jr. The project, adjacent to a developing historical park on Lexington Avenue, also features the Haley House built in 1786 as the oldest High Point building. The High Point Historical Society leads both museum and park efforts as its annual membership drive nears.
Thomasville Furniture Industries plans to close its Chicago showroom as part of a broader move to concentrate sales at Spring and Fall markets in the South. President Tom A. Finch will steer the restructuring and emphasize core markets.
Charles E. Hayworth was elected president and director of the Southern Furniture Club at the first annual meeting. Other officers include William M. Blanton as first vice president Dr. John F. Lynch as second vice president Leo J. Heer secretary treasurer Mrs Virginia Jackson assistant secretary treasurer and a board of directors for one two and three year terms names listed. Leo Heer ex officio through the Southern Furniture Exposition Building noted Arm strong Corp subsidiary Thomasville Furniture Industries will close its showroom at the American Furniture Mart before the June Chicago market with May 31 expiry.
