Jamestown Train Wreck Kills One Injures Dozens

Southern passenger No. 43 derailed at Jamestown Saturday evening. One person died, about 24 injured, with Mary Green of Thomasville and D. C. Carroll of Oak Hill Va. listed in critical condition. Numerous others, including Miss Caroline Biggers and Mary Hiatt, sustained serious injuries. Rescue and medical teams transported wounded to High Point and Greensboro as investigators work to determine the cause.

Hiatt Dies From Jamestown Wreck After Valient Fight

Mrs Hazel Piatt Hiatt 28 year old wife of Mack S Hiatt of Morris street High Point died in High Point hospital from injuries in the wreck of Southern train No 45 at Jamestown She suffered fractures and internal injuries and her recovery was not possible Her husband reached the scene and stayed by her side along with others Her death follows a valiant fight by physicians and she was a Wesley Memorial church member Her family and friends recall her life and church ties with sorrow

Two Men Injured As Automobile Overturns Near Deep River Church

Two men, J. M. Hoover and Ed. Allen, were injured when their Ford overturned near Deep River church today. Hoover suffered a broken rib and Allen multiple bruises. both were treated and taken home. Allen reportedly fared better, while Hoover rested with hopes of a speedy recovery.

Chin Shot Off At Davidson Road Camp

A Negro road worker at Gordonstown in Davidson county is hospitalized with part of his chin missing after a .38 caliber gunshot. Authorities say two Black laborers employed in road construction argued over a dispute, leading to one shooting the other.

Indianapolis March 20 Thomas Taggart a Democratic National committeeman was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Shively by Governor Ralston. Taggart has long led Indiana politics for 25 years and has served as Marion County auditor and three terms as mayor of Indianapolis.

Millis Farlowe Expected to Recover After Injury

Reports from Sophia indicate Millis Farlowe, a young white man, was struck in the head by a matock in the hands of a neuro convict last week. He suffers concussion but doctors say recovery is likely though slow. Dr. J. T. Burres of High Point called in for consultation.

Busy Times at High Point Hospital Under Strain

Last night and today hospital staff including nurses and physicians covered all shifts. Forty patients were treated with some in serious condition. A steady stream of callers and relatives of Jamestown wreck victims filled the halls.
