reports from San Antonio indicate Gavira refused entry to American troops pursuing Villa into Casas Grandes. Pershing’s forces reached the town’s outskirts as Funston’s headquarters received news of the march, though no clashes were reported. Villa’s exact location remained uncertain, suspected in Galeana mountains as he keeps shifting retreat patterns.
Washington reports a weekly forecast from the weather bureau predicting fair and warmer conditions next week. Temperatures are expected to rise across the country with above average readings in the Mississippi valley and western districts. A disturbance forming west of the Rocky Mountains Sunday will move toward the plains and eastward by Tuesday, bringing an initial temperature rise.

Washington March 18 a complete adjustment of labor difficulties between machinists and allied crafts on southeastern railroads was reached by representatives of the roads. The agreement provides a wage increase of 1 to 5 cents per hour and sets a minimum pay across all crafts. Participating roads include Southern Atlantic Coast Line Norfolk and Western Chesapeake and Ohio and more, with crafts such as machinists boiler makers blacksmiths car men pipe fitters sheet metal workers apprentices and helpers. Thirty labor representatives and one employer representative had been negotiating since January 12. The last settlement lasted three years and this one is expected to run at least a year. No time limit was set.
Snoke Virginia March 18 Jack Allen the last of the Allen clan of Carroll county Virginia was shot and killed last night at the home of Mrs Roberta Martin five miles from Mt Airy North Carolina by Will McCraw a noted blockader Allen had stopped at Mrs Martins to spend the night After supper McCraw joined the talk about the Allen trial and his remark about Wesley Edwards provoked Allen who rebuked him and the shooting followed.
W D Steele of Thomasville will succeed J F Cannon as High Point local agent for the Carolina and Yadkin River Railway effective today. Cannon will perform special duties in the High Point freight office due to his expertise.
London reports the steamship Palembang was torpedoed. All crew members were saved and no casualties are announced. The incident adds to wartime sea dangers in the patrol areas.

Asheville March 18. Sheriff J A Ammons of Graham county with his brother arrive to take Ed Williams the outlaw back for trial. Williams has been in Buncombe county jail since September 27 for safe keeping pending a Robbinsville trial next week. Hardy Wiggins and Merritt Miller remain jailed awaiting state supreme court review.
The War Department announces immediate reopening of army recruiting stations at Greensboro Winston-Salem Asheville Charlotte Raleigh and Rocky Mount. The move, authorized by the emergency army bill signed this week, aims to boost enlistment to full quota and establish stations nationwide.
Rev L W Blackwelder and A F Moore left for Sandy Ridge to deliver a commencement address and present a flag on behalf of Junior Order 456. They expect Hon Sam F Vance and W A Snider of Winston-Salem to join the ceremony and participate in the exercises.

Dr. John KE. Saadi, born in Turkey and former interpreter for Lord Wolseley, will lecture at St. Mary's Episcopal church in High Point Sunday at 7 30 on Mohammedanism. He will compare Christianity and Islam, explain beliefs and customs, and discuss Christian progress in Turkey and Africa. Public invited.
