The Boy Is Dead Or Is He marching Home Again
An elegiac reflection on a fallen 21 year old drafted in 1944. The speaker imagines the boy’s sleep among jungle grass, his sacrifice for a country, and questions whether the town and nation upheld the ideals for which he gave his life. The piece contrasts cherished hometowns with wartime greed and asks if the sacrifice was worth it.
