Walkie Talkies for All Postwar Promise
FCC plans a nationwide postwar program allowing every man, woman, and child to own pocket walkie talkies for personal use. Sets would weigh 20 to 50 pounds, operate on a shared 10,000 kilocycle band, and include a battery saver at fixed locations. Critics warn about interference, while officials expect broader use beyond telephones and new jobs.
