County eyes bonds for schools and repairs across Guilford
At the county school administration building Friday, officials outlined needs for a bus maintenance shop sites and money for repairs and renovations. A new elementary school in Jamestown District and a new high school in eastern Guilford were urged as student numbers rise faster than urban areas. Chairman Howard Carr warned the system is up against a brick wall and urged timely funding, noting a two year lag between money approval and completion. Commissioners seek school system backing to win voter approval for a bond issue. Commissioner F P Bodenheimer Jr. suggested the county may be too conservative in its estimates.

Airport gains $1.5 million in federal funds for expansion
Greensboro High Point Airport Authority will receive about 1.5 million dollars in federal funds under a tentative allocation from the FAA. The money covers half the cost to buy land and develop a new terminal area across the current Friendship Airport runway. The other half comes from revenue notes and bonds. The award supports engineering and design for relocation of fixed base operator sites, a new weather station, and future passenger and cargo facilities. Government officials said the grant stems from the Airport Development and Aid Program based on user taxes.
