City Power Rates To Go Up 6 Per Cent April 1
High Point residents face a 6 percent increase in city power bills starting after April 1, adding to a 4 percent rise in January for a total 10.30 percent hike. The council approved the new rate after noting a 20 percent jump in Duke Power’s wholesale rate, with refunds possible if the FPC denies the permanent increase. Revenue from the higher city rate should nearly offset the wholesale deficit, possibly leaving the city slightly above break even. Council discussions also touched on accusations of double taxation, which were rejected as long as city rates match Duke’s.
