Teen saves Brown Pelican symbol of conservation effort
Beth Payne an 18 year old Del Mar College freshman in Corpus Christi has become a public face for saving the brown pelican. The species once numbered around 60 000 along the Texas Louisiana coast but now fewer than 100 remain due to pesticides and habitat loss. Endangered status was noted by the Interior Department last October.
