Southern Railway appoints welfare agent for employees

The Southern Railway company named Rev. Charles L. Bass a welfare agent at 8060 annually to uplift employees morally socially and industrially. Bass a Methodist preacher and former attorney and Georgia legislator joined the ministry after leading a church near Immanuel Yard in Georgia. He left on a tour of inspection with VP Copeman.

D Mood Welborn a prominent young farmer died at his home near Trinity from pneumonia aged 39 He left a widow seven children his mother three brothers and two sisters He was active in Hopewell Methodist church and Guilford council No 2 Junior Order Funeral services will be held at Hopewell church Friday morning with the Junior Order in charge.

New York March 2 Theodore Roosevelt’s decision to not allow his name for the presidential nomination was reinforced as his secretary John W. Pitt County Posse Hunts Escaped Convict and Murderer

By the Associated Press march reports an escaped convict and murderer, Evans, shot supervisor Reddie A. Smith near Ayden as Smith led a posse with hounds. Smith died or likely fatally wounded as Evans fled behind a tree. Evans had escaped two weeks earlier after fatally wounding guard Joseph MacLawhorn with a pickaxe. Authorities say the suspect is demented and unlikely to be captured alive.
