Mechanicsville racer John Zagor survived a dramatic Lake Oak Hollow crash during the World Championship Drag Boat Races. His boat flipped and exploded, sending him to High Point Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, while rival Roger Williams noted both boats hit 126 mph.
Gary Owens of Bellflower California ran 191.08 mph to win the Brown Fuel Hydro final at Oak Hollow Lake Sunday defeating Jack Ostrander whose Guzzler sank after passing the timing lights. North Carolina’s Ron White clinched a Hydro division title with 113.20 mph aboard Aftershock, which blew its engine before the final.
