Evacuation From Beirut Set Sunday

Washington reports Ford administration will proceed with a dawn Sunday land convoy evacuating about 150 Americans from Beirut to Syria. After the killings of U S Ambassador Francis Meloy Jr and aide Robert Waring, a British motorcade to Damascus was postponed one day. About 1,800 Americans and dependents live in Lebanon. fewer than 40 percent had left. The White House stressed safety concerns but officials remain confident the convoy could start Sunday morning.
