Conviction Overturned in Stanly Wife’s Death on First Vote
North Carolina Supreme Court overturned Harold George Farrs murder conviction ruling insufficient evidence to support the first degree charge. The court also upheld four other first degree murder cases and two rape cases, while reversing a second degree murder conviction and vacating three death sentences due to federal ruling on capital punishment. Farr, a Stanly County man, was sentenced to death in 1976 for the 1975 killing of Earlene Farr. It was noted he had solicited murder of his wife while jailed, offering land and money. In a dissent, Justice Lake argued evidence supported murder or hire. The same day Lombard Illinois published a separate oil and water wastage piece from the Water Quality Association highlighting energy costs of pumping water.
