Great Britain paid nothing on the June installment of its war debt to the United States but stated willingness to reopen discussions at a future date. A note from the British embassy acknowledged the U S request for the payment of 85,670,765.05 dollars and the total accrued debt of 1,080,157,132.08 dollars.
Testimony concluded today in the long ouster hearing over Sheriff A. W. Whitehurst of Pitt County. County commissioners accuse him of irregularities in office and seek removal.
W D MacMillan and Fred D Poisson of the New Hanover county ABC board urged the state liquor commission to keep a 50 cent liquor brand on sale in county stores. Detroit June 14 A program of cooperation between labor and industry to avert industrial warfare was urged by Lewis G Hines organization director of the American Federation of Labor in an address prepared for delivery at the Advertising Federation of America annual meeting. He said cooperation can restore the nation to prosperity. The address was part of an industrial symposium with Donald R Richberg former N A A administrator and Bennett Chapple vice president of the American Rolling Mill Co speakers. Chapple said the nation is endowed with all the essentials for industrial progress except one understanding.

Dr William Wallace Campbell famed astronomer and former UC president killed himself by leaping from a three story window in his apartment building. Coroner said five notes were found and son Wallace cited ill health. He had lived with his wife since retirement and appeared cheerful the night before. A newsboy found the body early today.

Sam Dover a 57 year old farmer from Anderson County South Carolina charged with slaying his son Roy Dover 21 lay seriously wounded in a Charlotte hospital. He was found shot yesterday in front of another son’s home with a .32 caliber rifle nearby. Dover was out on $5000 bond for appearances at Anderson County court of general sessions.
R. R. McLoughlin of the Raleigh motor vehicle bureau notes South Carolina bans auxiliary gas tanks on trucks using state highways. He says no auxiliary tank is allowed and standard tanks must not exceed 30 gallons.

The Guilford County Board of Elections says it cannot report its findings before tonight after reviewing seven days of evidence from investigations into alleged irregularities in High Point. The board convened in Greensboro at 10 30 to examine materials and a transcript.

Deputy U S Marshal J Herman Goode said Samuel E Massengill of Bristol Tenn was ordered to appear at the September term of Federal court to face charges of violating the pure foods and drugs act. Massengill was released on 25000 bond after pleading innocent at arraignment before US Commissioner J Baumgartner. His company made a sulfanilamide elixir linked to several deaths last year.
Rescue workers tunneled around a rock fall in a mountain coal hole near Ashland Pennsylvania to reach Peter Shinskowsky 48 and his 17 year old son Peter Jr trapped 50 feet below the surface after a make shift lifting device failed tearing out the shaft timbers.
New insurgent air raids on Valencia set four sailing vessels afire in the harbor and caused heavy damage. Three killed and 22 buildings destroyed in the port sector in the morning raid. a second strike two hours later brought heavier damage and unknown casualties. Eight killed and 21 injured at Nules as refugees were among victims. The raiders also bombed Denia and the wrecked French freighter Brisbane for the third time after prior attacks.
