George T. Penny former congressional candidate addressed the Guilford county board of elections to defend fellow Democrats against alleged irregularities tied to a High Point investigation. Penny urged no reflections on the party and warned against acts like stealing votes or erasing ballots.
John L. Lewis took a direct hand in pushing for congressional approval of a bill penalizing government contractors who ignore labor board decisions or miss wage hour standards. He met with Speaker Bankhead and Rep Rayburn after the House Judiciary Committee halted movement on the measure.
Machines guns ended a rebellion led by Brigadier General Enrique Espejel Chavarria near Chipilo Village. Espejel and his brother died in the clash. Two Puebla policemen were killed in the fighting.

The High Point local of the International Furniture Workers and Upholsterers union submitted a written list of complaints and awaits management response. Picketing continues and the main grievance is the discharge of an upholsterer.

A bomb was hurled at the automobile carrying Premier Djemil Mardan as he traveled from Damascus toward Beirut for the opening of an extension to the eastern Mediterranean port. The device failed to detonate, and Mardan remained unharmed. Strong nationalist leaders accompanied him.
Ralph Gibbons aged 34 was fatally struck by a train at a railroad crossing in Colfax yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred near the downtown area, with authorities noting no immediate witnesses.
The state board of medical examiners began a five day session in Raleigh to examine credentials of out-of-state doctors wishing to practice in North Carolina and to test students who completed two or four year medical programs in approved schools.
Funeral services planned for Clay E. Pardue, 39, who drowned while tending fishing nets in a Kernersville lake yesterday. Rescue crews recovered the body and notified authorities. Pardue was a resident of Kernersville and connected with local fishing activities.

Church Ford halted proceedings as Johnson, a Whitley County farmer, was ordered to bed with a nervous disorder. Quadruplets born to Mrs. Esther Taylor 29, wife of a teamster in Liverpool. The babies, three boys and a girl, were healthy. The Taylors already have four other children.

Carl Siler, 32, of Siler Brothers Trucking, was killed in a two truck collision 15 miles south of Fredericksburg Virginia. He left Siler City Sunday with Cecil Kelly to haul a lumber load to Washington. Siler's body was badly mangled. Kelly reportedly unhurt.
