Democrats Hold District Conventions In North Carolina
The 11 North Carolina Democratic conventions included a strong plea against the persecution of black leaders. The 9th district meeting in Charlotte, with Mecklenburg influence, adopted calls to end U.S. involvement in Vietnam and urged passage of women rights amendments. Delegations from Iredell and Lincoln walked out in protest. The party rules boosted minority and women delegates to the national convention, including two women and one black from the 9th district delegation. One pledged support for Sen. George McGovern, while others remained undecided.
