The Western North Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church expelled Rev. Robert C. Frazier after its annual meeting. He was charged with neglect of duties and failing to be in harmony with church governance.
Estates of five people killed in a Sampson County oil stove explosion demand 170000 from Eastern Oil Co of Elizabethtown in civil court. Suit alleges unlawful gasoline kerosene mix sold as standard kerosene to Paul Brewington. blast killed his wife and three children plus others and injured one.
A Wachovia senior vice president in Raleigh was named chairman of a state wide drive to raise relief funds for South Korea's civilian population. Gov Umstead appointed George P Geohegan Jr head of Wachovia's Raleigh branch to lead the effort citing support for South Korea’s fight against communism.
The General Synod of the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church at Bonclarken elected a successor to Dr. C. E. Edwards of Columbia, S C, and settled the 1954 meeting site while Dr. George E. Sweazy of New York spoke at an evangelism conference. Winston-Salem named S Paul Meadows king of Royal Arcanum grand council of the Carolinas with officers Claude Penninger A Wesley Emory Edward Brock and W H Slawson also elected.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved James M. Baley Jr. of Marshall North Carolina to be U S attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. The nomination awaits full Senate consent and Baley resigned as North Carolina Republican chairman after the nomination was received.
North Korea air battles left American Sabre jets bagging eight MIGs and damaging five, with Maj. Vermont Garrison of Tulsa credited as the war's 32nd jet ace after downing his fifth MIG. Ground clashes erupt along the front as ROK forces fight hand to hand and repel several Chinese and North Korean probing attacks near Anchor Hill and along the Eastern Front.
Gen. George C. Marshall urged British leaders to grasp American aims in Korea and resist Soviet propaganda. He said the American public must avoid aiding Chinese Communist forces and noted the high casualties to correct belief of a warlike mood. Churchill sent a message praising unity among English speaking peoples.
A 15 year old, Carl Roberson Wilson of Rt. 1 Neuse, pleaded guilty to raping a 17 year old Black girl near a cemetery on May 23. He enticed the girl and another into the cemetery under the pretense of finding a lost dog and the victim required hospital treatment.
Sen. Taft calls for a military pact with Britain to bypass the U N veto in Asia if Korean armistice efforts fail. He says the U N has proven unable to halt aggression and hints the U S may need to act with allies to secure peace, noting existing treaties with Australia New Zealand Japan and the Philippines.
The Weather Bureau forecast shows a Gulf air mass and a cold front meeting over the Carolinas this weekend bringing rain. Drought has hurt crops with one half reductions in corn squash tomatoes and cucumbers around Charleston. Temperatures rose to the high 80s and 90s in several cities with heat records noted late last month.

The flights from Limestone Air Base Maine to Fairford England averaged 566 mph as part of mass operations by the 306th Medium Bombardment Wing moving from MacDill Field Tampa to England. Fifteen planes completed the flight yesterday.
