Wilderness designation proposed for Great Smoky Mountains
A study team recommends designating three fourths of Great Smoky Mountains National Park as wilderness. If approved, 390,500 acres of 516,000 will be protected from roads and man made projects. LeConte Lodge and several backcountry shelters would close by December 31 1977.
