Wood properties and decal removal tips for several softwoods
Sugar pine resists split nails well and has low shrinkage among listed softwoods. Ponderosa pine and Tolalia white pine split less than harder denser woods. Douglas fir is mid-range for nail hold and shrinkage. Larch shrinks and swells more but stabilizes after drying. Idaho white pine and Ponderosa pine show minimal shrinkage, while atmosphere changes cause some dimensional change. For decal removal, cover with a clean wet cloth and apply a hot steam iron over the cloth, avoid direct wood contact, then rub to lift the decal, repeating as needed.
