Five Army Leaders Die in Plane Crash Near Augusta
Five military men including Maj. Gen. Paul W. Newgarden and Col. Renn Lawrence were killed when an army plane disintegrated during a wind and electrical storm near Augusta Georgia. Capt. Lester M. Nichols said the officials were en route from Fort Knox to Camp Gordon for a troop review and anniversary events. The crash left uniforms and insignia at the site as investigators noted the fatalities.

Baltimore to host AAABA championship teams in September

West Point graduate and Army officer with lengthy service

Newspapers Cut Newsprint Use in June
New York reports that U S newspapers reduced newsprint consumption by 16.4 percent from June last year and 21.2 percent from June 1941. The American Newspaper Publishers Association notes about 75 percent of newsprint reported, totaling 191,077 tons in June, with six month totals down 16.1 percent from 1943 and 20.4 percent from 1941. Publisher supplies averaged 54 days of needs at June end, up from 51 at May end.
