Chinese Forces Repel Assault on Canton Hankow Rail Key

Chinese high command says forces renewed their attack on the Canton Hankow rail key of Kengyang in southern Hunan and briefly entered the streets but were annihilated. The report comes from Chungking dated July 15.

British Army in Normandy Seizes Thousands of Axis Prisoners

British forces report capturing more than 7,000 Germans as they close on La Barre de Semilly near St Lo. Allied casualty estimates claim 28,000 to 30,000 killed or wounded since D Day, with total prisoners surpassing 54,000. An American tally on June 11 cites 1,819 enemy captured by U S troops.

Funeral services for Mrs Minnie Morgan Stockton of 1012 Park Street who died Friday morning will begin with a home service at 12:15 then proceed to Advance Baptist Church in Davie County for the 2 o'clock funeral led by Rev. Odel Leonard of Lexington. Interment follows in the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Rites Held at Grove Methodist Church

Funeral services for gemes ster Kennedy were conducted Friday evening at 5 o clock from the Grove Methodist church with Rev. C E Ridge and Rev H O Miller officiating. Music featured by the Hillard Memorial Baptist Church. flowers carried by Kennedy family and friends. Pallbearers included V F Morgan G L Sink John Burton Paul Kinley and Edward Shoaf. Interment followed at a local cemetery.

Solid South Again Predicted by Josephus Daniels

Guam raids resume as Mitscher fleet dominates air and sea

Nimitz says carrier air strikes on Guam extend to ten straight days. July 10 reports note destroyers sinking an enemy coastal transport near Guam. Attacks target Port Apra area with bombardments of ammunition dumps, storage facilities, gun positions, and buildings on Guam and Rota.

Allied bombing blitz hits rail yards near Paris and German targets

Flier notes visibility good en route to target as two explosions sparked a flame sheet along tracks indicating an ammunition train was struck. Villeneuve-Saint-Georges yards near Paris, a key south Paris traffic hub, were hit the night of July 4. Lancasters and Halifaxes joined in the night raid on enemy positions. Mosquito formations attacked 60 miles south of Tours, dropping 32 tons on German barracks, while other Mosquitos pounded German communications.
