Chimp Lana reaches 75 word vocabulary in new language
Lana the three year old chimp at Emory Yerkes Center has learned a 75 word Yerkaish vocabulary and can read and write using a computer mediated system. Researchers led by Dr. Duane M. Rumbaugh say the progress may expand to 1000 words and could advance understanding of language in primates and help language training for handicapped children.
