High Point YMCA cagers, 7 6, host Fieldale Virginia tonight at 8 p m on South Main Street gym. Unofficially favored by up to 20 points, High Point seeks win to stay above .500 after a loss to Duke All Stars.
Reavis Memorial, Calvary Methodist and Allen Jay Baptist posted weekend cages wins in the YMCA Sunday School league. Reavis Memorial defeated Fairmont Park Baptist 48 to 29, Allen Jay Baptist toppled First Church of God 70 to 39, and Calvary Methodist smashed East Green Street Baptist 69 to 26.
A new 10 team professional league will form in North Carolina with teams from High Point Thomasville Salisbury Mooresville Statesville Hickory Marion Shelby Forest City and Lincolnton plus Lexington or Newton Conover as the 10th. Walter Woodson Jr leads the effort at the Vance Hotel as ticket sales progress and volunteers are sought for sales drives at local chambers of commerce.

Fair Grove High School extended its season best to 11 consecutive wins by defeating Denton Red Raiders 69 to 40 in a Davidson County Conference contest at Fair Grove. Richard Sechrist led the winners with 17 points while Gallimore had 22 for Denton. In the opener, Fair Grove girls won their ninth straight by routing Denton 60 to 37 as Tysinger scored 23 for Denton and Jones 25 for Fair Grove.
Thomasville bulldogs topped Mooresville 57 to 35 as Boby Hartman led with 25 points and Darr Shealy’s squad improved to two wins in three South Piedmont conference outings. The second game saw Thomasville prevail 60 to 45 with Kaney and Hinks scoring 19 and 29 respectively.
College and YMCA calendar lists High Point YMCA versus Fieldale Va at High Point at 8 p.m. Tonight no high school games. Tomorrow several intracity league matchups include A B Club against Elks and Civitan versus Mercury along with multiple YMCA Commercial League games.
In Louisville Frank Sedgman saw his lead over Jack Kramer shrink from six to four after a 6-3 6-2 defeat as Kramer capitalized on Sedgman double faults. Pancho Segura remained unbeaten by defeating Ken McGregor 8-6 6-4, with the touring group heading to Cincinnati for another one night stand.
