Charlotte reports the death of the Rev Robert S Boyd 72 former moderator of the Presbyterian synods of Missouri and Georgia. A native of St Charles County Mo he served as pastor in Kentucky Missouri Georgia and North Carolina. His last post was First Church Greenville from 1939 to 19 ill health led to resignation. He lived in Laurinburg then moved to Charlotte to live with his daughter.

In Manning South Carolina two school buses collided in heavy fog killing a 10 year old white pupil Thomas Harr Ellson and a Negro boy Willie Lemon who drove one bus. About 40 others were injured with 16 admitted to Clarendon Memorial Hospital plus three to Toomey Sumter and four to McLeod Florence. One bus was en route to pick up passengers for a Negro school when the crash occurred.
