Tomorrow Modern Telescopes and Early Sky Survey
A historical column recounts William Herschel building a homemade five foot telescope in England and discovering Uranus with royal patrons and family help from Caroline Herschel. It notes his later work with 40 foot telescopes, his moon discoveries, and his son John Herschel with extensive star catalogs. It also mentions Caroline Herschel’s comets and the family’s legacy in astronomy.
