Democrat Hargrove Bowles urged all gubernatorial candidates including Holshouser to disclose not only income but who pays them. He pledged to file annual certified lists of his and his wife's financial interests with the secretary of state. Bowles added he resigned from corporate posts before running and called for public clarity on employers and clients.

Raleigh North Carolina Natural Gas Co seeks a rate increase to raise about $310,827 yearly. The Fayetteville based firm serves 33,352 residential customers in eastern North Carolina and plans the higher charges to offset higher wholesale prices from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co. If approved the increase would take effect February 10.
