The U S Weather Service expects cold fronts to enter the state this week bringing seasonable temperatures. Cloudiness increases tonight with a 30 percent chance of light rain or drizzle. Highs today in the upper 40s to low 50s with tonight’s lows around 40. Tuesday to be cloudy with possible rain or showers and a 60 percent precipitation chance.
Forecast for North Carolina shows sunny but cool conditions today with highs from the mid 40s to low 60s depending on elevation and coast. Tonight brings increasing clouds with a chance of light rain or drizzle and cooler lows. Tuesday brings continued cloudiness and cooler highs in the 40s to 60s with possible showers. South Carolina remains mostly sunny and mild today, then cloudy and mild tonight and Tuesday with occasional rain. Highs range from the upper 40s to the lower 60s, with nighttime lows from the 30s to mid 50s.
A three day outlook from Wednesday to Friday calls for variable clouds and cool temperatures. Mountain regions may see rain or snow showers on Wednesday and Friday, with lows in the 20s to upper 30s and highs around 40 in the mountains to the 50s along the coast. Coastal areas reach the mid 40s to mid 50s.
British troops raided a Catholic club in Belfast early today as about 75 men barricaded inside and hurled furniture. An army spokesman said several men were arrested and handed to police for interrogation after using rubber bullets to quell resistance.
North Carolina Baptist churches grew by 13,993 members in 1971 raising total membership to 1,037,557. Baptisms reached 29,713 across 3,438 churches, up 2,432 from 1970, the largest rise since 1964. Offerings rose to 99.8 million with 14.2 million for missions, and building spending hit 16.1 million.

Morton proposes public forums to curb costs. Bowles emphasizes using only received contributions.
