Rahway detective work follows a complex murder tale with Henry Stader identifying a body and Frazer allegedly linked to a fatal shooting. Frazer was arrested in Raleigh after delivering $280 and a note about the body, while investigators pursue further questioning.
The navy announces the Los Angeles will depart Guantanamo Bay early Friday for Jupiter Florida to calibrate the radio compass station. The airship will fly over Havana between 7 and 8 a.m. and reach Miami about 2 p.m. It is due at Jupiter around 4 p.m. After calibration it will moor at Parris Island South Carolina for the night.
New York February 25. Employees of the New York World Evening World and Sunday World request surrogate James A Foley grant to purchase the paper they work for. Gustave A Rodgers, counsel for about 3000 men and women, filed the petition in court.
In Columbia South Carolina February 25 the state house opened debate on a bill to tax hydro electric power. Greenwood representative W L Daniel denounced Duke Power and its subsidiaries saying they wield vast influence and stifle voices of the people while supporting plants if they bear burdens but resisting selling South Carolina to them. He urged parity with cotton mills for power plants.
Raleigh police held two men on capital crime charges. Clyde Hester, a young white man, faces an assault charge involving his 16 year old step daughter and is to have a hearing Friday. Charlie Waller, a negro, is charged with attacking an 11 year old negro girl.
RALEIGH February 25 approval was given the Johnson divorce bill by a senate judiciary committee. The measure has already passed the house and allows either party in a five year separation to sue for divorce if there are no children. Under the present law only the injured party may sue.
Rafe F King, indicted for the murder of his wife Faye Wilson King, will face a second trial at a Lancaster special term in May after a Chester venue change was approved. Attorney Thomas F McDow said a supreme court justice would be asked to transfer King from prison to Lancaster jail for awaiting trial. Previous trial dates had been March 13 and March 30.
Three southern Democrats, Senator Brock of Tennessee and Representatives Allgood and Hill of Alabama, urged President Hoover to sign the modified Norris Muscle Shoals bill. Brock said Hoover would give the measure careful consideration.
The Senate finance committee voted 8 to 6 to indefinitely postpone action on the house bill barring importation after April 1 of products made from forced labor. The legislation was killed for this session and possibly the next, under the 1930 tariff act denying entry of goods produced with forced labor after January 1.
Four Louis D and Nashville railroad workers perished when the Pan American Limited bound from New Orleans to Cincinnati plunged through an open drawbridge over the Mobile River eighteen miles north of Mobile. Passengers escaped serious harm as a Pullman with 18 people nearly toppled into the water. Train officials and eye witness W M Lewis described the disaster and the failure of the stop signal.
William Grover Spangler, World War veteran, vanished eighteen months ago after leaving for a business trip to Hopewell. His body was found near a church between Hopewell and Petersburg, identified by his wife and her brother. The case, once blamed on foul play, prompted a nationwide search with the American Legion aiding. The corpse will be returned for a military funeral. his suitcase and ID were recovered nearby.
Capone slips into federal building ahead of contempt arraignment, evading crowd and reporters. He pleads not guilty, claiming illness while prosecutors say he faked illness to skirt the subpoena. He plans to surrender after the hearing and returns with his attorney, William F. Waugh.
Roy Barker, companion of outlaw Otto Wood, has been paroled by Governor Gardner in Salisbury North Carolina. Barker was convicted for carrying a concealed weapon and did not participate in the street fight that led to Wood’s death by officers.
Los Angeles filed in superior court by Fern Setril seeks 601000 dollars in damages claiming Griffith assaulted her June 25 during a business meeting at his apartment about a role in Abraham Lincoln. Griffith calls the suit absurd and unfounded as New York reports his denial.

In New Orleans on February 25 three hooded bandits robbed the St Roch branch of Whitney Bank and Trust, engaging in a gun battle with officers that wounded a bystander. They fled in a car with a confederate driver, racing through Bourbon Street and eluding police after exchanging shots along Arrow Street, while August Keller was grazed by a bullet.
NASHVILLE Tenn Feb 25 AP With full warning Rogers Caldwell and BF Heitzeberg presidents of Caldwell and Company and its bank conceded the institutions collapsed due to loose business practices. Read to the committee were inter office letters from Goodloe cashier of the Bank of Tennessee urging policy changes to keep the sinking operations afloat. Letters dated June 20 1929 and May 20 1930 urged severing ties with Colonel Luke Lea and criticized the companys handling of obligations amid deteriorating financial standing.
RALEIGH Feb 25 The Senate approved the local government finance bill by 36 to 5 sending it to the House. The measure requires political subdivisions to sell bonds or notes with approval by a state commission. Also approved was a resolution to hear former Gov Alfred E Smith in the state theater next Monday. The article notes other actions including taxation, elections, and juvenile delinquency law updates.
Six armed men robbed the Union Trust Company central branch in Dayton’s business district this morning, forcing manager Norman W. Burgmeier and eight employees to surrender. They escaped with about 18 000 to 20 000 dollars, driving off in a curbside car as police in an armored vehicle gave chase. The daring heist followed a string of recent bank robberies in the area and recalled a fatal crime in the southern city district.

In Los Angeles two women, Esther Carlson and Anna Erickson, were charged with murder over the poisoned death of August Lindstrom, 81, a former Arizona lumberman. The coroner's jury ruled he died from poison administered with homicidal intent. Lindstrom's body was exhumed in Williams, Arizona, after his son reported a $2000 withdrawal from a joint account.
