North Carolina bill would direct nitrate and potash to farmers
Raleigh Feb 21 Representative Bullard of Cumberland introduces a bill to let the agriculture commissioner obtain nitrate of soda and agricultural potash from foreign countries or suppliers for free distribution to farmers at cost. The state could borrow up to 200000 dollars for storage and purchase, with deposits and a no-profit sale rule to prevent speculation. Bullard cites South Carolina as a model and argues no statewide appropriation is needed.
